Orion has been continuing to create beers in their Craft Series, their fourth release being an English style mild ale. Ryukyu Mild is brewed with Okinawa grown cane sugar and English Maris Otter malt.
Ryukyu Mild pours out a dark brown and has a nice char-malt aroma off the head. The flavor is toned down with nice coffee, caramel hints across the tongue. Its bitterness captures the tongue and cheeks, being long lasting on the palate and throat.
This beer is quite a change from anything that Orion (Asahi) puts on the market in their normal offerings. It has a wonderful medium body and round flavor that does not go over the top, remaining easy drinking throughout. Although this was a limited release, it can still be found on the shelves at some stores. It’s worth a try.
