Tasting Notes:
This summers seasonal limited from Grand Kirin is Hikouki-Gumo to Watashi. This Belgian Saison style beer is made with hops and Belgian yeast and is unfiltered to produce its refreshing flavor.

Hikouki-Gumo pours out of the bottle with a very fragrant tropical fruit nose, there are hints of coriander seed and passion fruit, along with a dose of yeast. The first gulp is somewhat chewy up front with the coriander seed taking a front seat as well as some cinnamon-like spiciness. Mid-to-back, it is quite light with the flavors pretty much disappearing leaving a strong effervescence to quench the throat. With the spicy flavors non-existent, the bitterness stays true and adds to a clean finish.

This Saison style beer has a lot of good qualities but lacks the ability to bring everything together in harmony. Drinking it quickly does pull some of the flavors together and going through the glass some of the spices start to build on the palate. Bottom line however, is that there are much better brews on the shelves and I would pass on Hikouki-Gumo to Watashi.
