Tasting Notes:
Brewer’s Bar is a new series from Suntory for the FamilyMart, CircleK, Sankus chain of convenience stores, all of which have merged into one parent company. The first of this series (at least I hope its a series) is Kohakuiro no Lager who’s deep favor is derived from roasted English malt, aroma hops, and their late hopping technique.

Unusually, this amber is of a lighter shade than you might expect. It has a wonderfully malty nose, with hints of toast and a nice yeastiness to it. The first mouthful is quite amazing, nothing over the top but just an experience of refinement. This beer is on the lighter side, but retaining a full, well-rounded flavor. Roasted malt, a perfect sweetness, a citrusy tang, finishing with just the right amount of bitterness.

In the past, Suntory has done so many amber type brews, from new genres to their all malt offerings. Frankly, I was expecting a run of the mill type beer from this one, but from the first sip I was intrigued. This beer’s refinement was just shockingly perfect. No one flavor stands out, keeping this beer in perfect harmony. So far in 2017, Kohaku-iro no Lager is my top pick.

I agree, it’s a very nice beer! I hope they keep it permanently instead if as a seasonal brew.

Instead of, rather. Sorry for the typo…
