7&i Holding has procured yet another Big Four beer previously served only on tap. This time, we have Kirin Brau Meister and while it has always been a restaurant favorite of mine, I’ve never had it in a can. This beer is brewed with select malt, quality rice, and a mixture of fine aroma, aroma, and fine aroma “maribana” hops. Kirin explains maribana as the flowered female variety of the hop resembling a pine cone.
Brau Meister pours into the glass giving off a wonderful bitter aroma, no doubt from that mixture of hops. The first mouthful is incredibly rich and full of malt right up front. It has an ever so slight, elegant sweetness to it, enhancing the flavor. Mid to back, it’s quite smooth finishing with a balanced bitterness.
What stands out with Brau Meister is its balanced flavor. It’s bold, yet refined, without any one flavor that is “over the top.” Brau Meister is just satisfaction in a can. It is still on the shelves in my neck of the woods, so be sure to find your can while it’s available. Otherwise, you’ll have to find it on tap, where it’ll be even better.
