Tasting Notes:
For the 2016 gift season, Asahi created four versions of their Dry Premium Houjou beer that were included in their winter gift sets. I waited and waited, but no one gave me a gift, so I was fortunate enough to find the Baisen-jitate version on the shelf of my local Yamaya.

In the glass, Baisen-jitate has a deep golden color, and hints of roasted malt come off the pour. The first gulp is full and rich with notes of toasted malt. A full bitterness envelops the back of the mouth as this beer goes down the throat.

This version of Houjou was a decent drink. The roasted malt added a change of pace to the evening in a beer that was rich, smooth, and easy to drink. I’ll have to pick up a gift pack next season to try the rest of the series.
