The one that got away… About this time last year, Suntory was going about their business creating beer after beer for their Craft Select series and this I.P.A. was number five. However, it never appeared on store shelves in my area. Originally, it featured Cascade hops, but this year Suntory chose to use Citra hops. My hopes are high for this one!
In the glass, IPA has a burn orange color with a fragrance of fruit from the yeast, an earthy peach-fuzz aroma along with lychee fruit. The first gulp is rich and full right up front, crossing the tongue with a creaminess from the head. Heavy malt and the bitterness of the hops dance over the tongue and slide down the throat. A tangy zing stays on the lips and grows in the background through the course of the glass.
At long last, I have finally partaken in Suntory’s I.P.A. and can say that it was definitely worth the wait. This ale is a very nice creation of flavors I’m familiar with back home, full, rich, and bitter. The choice of Citra hops was a good one, giving a delicate touch of citrus you’ll not find in other IPAs. If you’re in the mood for some bite, look for Suntory Craft Select I.P.A. on the shelves. It’s one of the best of the Craft Select series.
*For some reason, the lighting made the can turn blue. It is more of a green color.
