Using 1.5 times the barley content compared to their standard new genre, Asahi has released Aki no Kohaku. This is Asahi’s fall new genre brew, labeled under their Clear Asahi Brand. Aki no Kohaku is in its second year on the store shelved this fall.
In the glass, it shows off a deep reddish hue, reminding us that fall is just around the corner. The first gulp is full of roasted amber malt, however it does lack some of the depth found in a true beer. Aki no Kohaku does have a bit more of a robust flavor than the normal offerings.
This new genre stays on par with last year’s. However, with comparable or better offerings from the other labels, I think I would have to knock this down a notch. Still, Aki no Kohaku is tasty and remains a good buy for those on a budget.
