New to Sapporo’s Mugi to Hop brand is Platinum Clear, a new genre brew that is supposedly lighter than it’s fuller tasting brother Rich Malt. Platinum Clear is made with only barley and hops and uses Platinum malt and Platinum hops to create an “incredibly clear refreshing flavor.”
In the glass, Platinum Clear is a very light straw color with a citrusy malt nose. The first gulp is very sharp and has a straight forward cleanliness to it. On the finish there are slight hints of grass as the bitterness cleanses the palate.
If you’re one of those people that enjoys a lighter beer during the summer months, Platinum Clear might be up your alley. It’s quite light and refreshing, however it does have a hint of menthol on the back end. It cools the back of the tongue, kind of like Asahi Extra Sharp.
