Tasting Notes:
While first released for last year’s summer gift giving season, I didn’t get a chance to buy this one. Summer Special was popular enough that Suntory decided to make a limited release so that more people could enjoy this brew. This all malt beer is made with aroma hops from Hallertau, Germany, which have been incorporated in in quite a few beers over the past couple years.

Summer Special pours out a pale straw in the glass, with a light fresh fruity aroma from the hops. It has a smooth, creamy mouthfeel up front with a very round malty flavor that goes across the tongue. It has flavors of charcoal and toast towards the back and leaves the mouth in a smooth, yet satisfying bitterness.

While many summer type beers tend to be on the lighter side, Suntory keeps this beer a full bodied flavorful one. The full-bodied flavor makes this beer a really nice step up from your daily drag. Still, it does remain quite light and refreshing. Summer Special should be on everyone’s grocery list while it’s in stores.

German hop but still, the rich malty sweetness is quite intense. My search for a nicely hopped beer in the supermarket continues….
