It’s been a while since I’ve tried Suntory’s Premium Malt’s Black, so when I saw this on the grocery store shelve last week I decided to pick it up. Pre-Malt’s Black is made with black malt and 100% European aroma hops. Let’s see how it fares.
With an earthy nose of coffee grounds and bitter chocolate, Pre-Malt’s pours very dark into the glass. The first gulp is quite sharp with a heft of malt and a stiff bitterness that finishes the drink. Notes of roasted coffee with a perfect amount of sweetness linger in the background.
I don’t drink too many dark beers, and since there are relatively few dark beers from the Big Four there’s not much to compare Pre-Malt’s Kuro to. Although, of the dark beers I have had, this one remains one of my favorites. It has a very full complex flavor, yet is easy to drink.
