Tasting Notes:
Asahi has stated an improvement in quality with their new release of Genshu-Jitate Premium. This premium Japanese beer is made with a generous amount of AMARILLO® Hops, Saaz fine aroma hops, and Japanese golden malt for a wonderful aroma and depth of flavor.

Genshu-Jitate pours a deep golden color in the glass and has a sharp malty aroma. The malt shows itself from the start and viscously coats the middle to back of the tongue. In the background, is a strange metallic-like flavor that really reminds me of a new genre brew, but it does have some nice acidity and bitterness. The finish puckers the cheeks and leaves the malty-bitter flavors you’d expect in a beer.

I couldn’t quite put my finger on the background flavors, so a quick search on Amarillo hops stated that its high myrcene oil content can contribute to a metallic flavor. This release of Dry Premium doesn’t really stand out for me. It’s a decent beer, but I definitely would spend my hard earned yen elsewhere.
