Brewer: Sapporo
Release: Jun. 30, 2015
Type: Japanese Beer (ビール)
Alcohol: 6%
Purchase Price: ¥235 @7-Eleven

Tasting Notes:
This is the second of four beers in the European Tradition series Sapporo has created for the 7&i Group. Entitled Dortmunder, Sapporo attempts to replicate the original style of dark wheat beer from Dortmund with 100% of its hops and malt (both barley and wheat) coming from Germany.

The strong malt aroma rises out of the thick head upon pouring the glass. Dortmunder sports an unusual bronze color. In the mouth, its very smooth and has a little sweetness. The full-bodied flavor crosses the entire palate without letting up, finishing with a strong bitterness that stays in the throat.

Sapporo’s Dortmunder is not one you’ll encounter on the store shelves every day here in Japan. It has a very rich flavor profile that faintly resembles a whisky, very earthy, even oaky, along with a cider like sweetness that is balanced out by the bitterness of the hops. This beer hits the spot and is a must try while its still on store shelves.
