Asahi’s lastest release from its Dry Premium line is Zeitaku Kaori-Jikomi. This premium beer uses three times the Amarillo hops compared with the standard Dry Premium, supposedly bringing a more fruity aroma. Let’s see if this beer stands up to its premium label.
Zeitaku Kaori-Jikomi pours out a deep gold in the glass forming a creamy head. The immediate aroma is quite yeasty with a little graphite-like sharpness. Lots of malt comes off the back end while going down the throat. Its got a very full flavor, very clean and sharp, with bitterness that puckers the cheeks and tightens the throat.
This beer makes me think of Super Dry’s flavors being condensed and re-canned. Up front there isn’t much but the back-end is very nice with the malt just taking command of the drinking experience. It’s a very direct beer with not too much complexity, but more flavor than the standard Japanese lagers.
