Tasting Notes:
In order to quench Japan’s thirst for premium beers, Suntory has brewed an all malt beer for purchase at convenience stores and on tap at certain bars/restaurants (links to Japanese site). Being labeled a “Super Premium” beer Suntory’s The Master’s Dream is made with Diamond malt using Suntory’s triple decoction method in copper vats according to Czech brewing techniques.

Master’s Dream starts out with a wonderfully rich malt and hoppy aroma in the glass, its color is a deep gold. You can tell that a lot of care when into brewing this beer. The first gulp starts out with tons of malt flavor up front, while continuing across the palate with a round bitterness. It finishes with just a hint of sweetness, perfectly rounding off the taste experience.

I think Master’s Dream closely resembles the original Premium Malt’s brew, most noticeably in the astringent bitterness that was toned down in the new version. The major downfall for this beer is its price. At 318 yen for a 305mL bottle, it has to be the most expensive beer produced by a major brewer to date. In any case, do give Master’s Dream a try, and be sure to look for it on tap.
