Tasting Notes:
Volume 2 of Suntory’s Craftsman’s Beer series is Enjuku no Umami which is an aged Märzen style all malt beer brewed in celebration of Oktoberfest. Enjuku no Umami can only be found at Aeon Group grocery stores while supplies last.

In the glass Enjuku glows the same burnt orange as its can, and sports a nose full of hoppy fruity goodness. On your first gulp, roasted malt opens up the front end brining some acidity mid pallet, with its bitterness coming through on the throat. Hints of citrus linger on the back of the palate.

From the glass to the tummy, Enjuku no Umami gives a nice break from the standard Japanese lager. It’s nice to see some color in the glass once in a while, and this beer’s flavor profile really does differ from the norm. I like the roasted notes at the start and how it transitions throughout the mouth. Enjuku no Umami does not have the full-body you might expect, however and finishes quite light. But, it is one of those beers that keeps you coming back for more.
