Japanese Name: アサヒ ホップ香るピンクのビアカクテル
Release: Oct. 7, 2014
Purchase Price: ￥149 @Aeon
Exclusively brewed for the Aeon Group, this latest beer cocktail from Asahi features rose hips bringing a lovely pink to your Halloween or Christmas home party. In addition to rose hips, Asahi has chosen to use Nelson Sauvin hops for a white wine-like flavor profile.
This beer cocktail poured out a very faint pink, akin to a nice rosé. Not much comes off the nose. The first gulp is very clean, hops come through as well as a faint fruitiness from the rose hips. If you were blind tasting, it might be mistaken for a sparkling wine, sans the fruitiness from the grapes.
The rose hips bring more color to this drink than taste, which is quite bland. Asahi Hoppu Kaoru, while lacking the flavors that most beer drinkers enjoy, will probably find an audience with the non-beer drinkers looking for something sparkling. Being a rosé fan, I like the pink color, however I would like to taste a little more in this one, be it sweet or bitter.
