In its fourth winter on store shelves, Kirin’s winter new genre brew titled Fuyu Kirin is stated to be quite well received in the marketplace. While the other brewers set out to brew more flavorful and bitter beers, Kirin goes the opposite direction brewing a mild tasting beverage.
Fuyu Kirin pours out a light pale straw and it definitely does have a very “mild” taste. So much so, there really isn’t much to comment about flavor-wise; Fuyu Kirin starts out and finishes very clean with some nice effervescence in-between.
In the third tier near-beer category, there used to be quite a lot of awful tasting brews. They’d be unusually sweet or would have a terrible aftertaste, and that was the major draw for Fuyu Kirin. It was a third tier brew that didn’t have a strong off-putting taste, it was just a clean tasting beverage. However, while many people might prefer the light flavor, I find it a little boring for my tastes. Fuyu Kirin is not a bad beverage at all, it just doesn’t have any flavor component to it to keep my interest.
