“Ah, if only summer could last forever…” With its hot and humid weather, I don’t know if there’s a soul in Japan who wishes the summer could last forever. I mean the heat and sunshine is nice and all, but I could forgo the humidity. Well, Sapporo has brewed up Everlasting Summer in a can and has called it just that, Tokonatsu Kibun, for their summer limited brew. It’s a third tier new genre brew made with Apollo and Cascade hops for “a tropical and juicy aroma.” Let’s take Tokonatsu Kibun for a test drive.
Sapporo Tokonatsu Kibun is very pale in the glass, slightly on the light side for even Japanese brews. It has a very fresh aroma from the hops, a little “green” like the autumn freshly hopped beers. Try and get a gulp right after pouring to experience the very fruity citrus notes, they escape as the beer sits in the glass. It’s very light all around, in a good way. There’s a nice round body, not heavy at all, but it has a little sweetness that coats the mouth and enhances the fruitiness of the hops, rounding off with just a hint of bitterness.
Sweating in my living room with fans blasting… trying to conserve electricity so no air conditioner… I do not wish summer would go away, just cool down a tad. However, Sapporo Tokonatsu Kibun can help you get through the heat. It’s a light and refreshing brew with just the perfect amount of flavor to make you forget you’re not drinking the real stuff this summer. Sapporo has done well with Tokonatsu Kibun, two thumbs up!
