UNY Group Holdings, the owner of convenience chains Circle K and Sankus, as well as a host of other retail outlets has teamed up with Asahi to produce Asahi Classic Premium, an all malt beer brewed with select German hops and brewed in traditional German fashion.
Classic Premium is a light straw in the glass, staying true to the “classic” name. My first gulp was quite light, there was a little maltiness and hints of vinegar along side an unpleasant metallic flavor. Luckily, moments after the first gulp the bitterness kicked in. The bitterness hangs around and builds over the course of the glass. However, it pretty much over powers the beer and is the only thing that stands out.
With such as light tasting beer to start with, that much bitterness puts this beer off balance. While bitterness is a good thing, there isn’t much else going on with Asahi Classic Premium. If you love a bitter light beer you might enjoy this one, but those looking for a more well-rounded beverage, you’ll have to look elsewhere. Check out Asahi Classic Premium at your nearest Circle-K or Sankus conbinis.
