Kirin Sumikiri Pour

Tasting Notes:
At an after tax price of ¥100 at the grocery store, Kirin’s new entry on the new genre scene cuts the competition’s by at least 5 yen while at the same time boasting all malt and malt byproduct brewing. Let’s see how Kirin Sumikiri tastes.

Kirin Sumikiri is a light straw color, your average lager fare. It has some nice effervescence with very mellow malt and hop flavors, finishing dry with a little bitterness. The bitterness is somewhat of a pine-like flavor, not terribly pleasant though.

With summer around the corner, the big four is putting out their lighter brews. Kirin Sumikiri is meant for summer consumption with its light flavors. It tastes good up to the end where personally, I taste a hint of mediciney Pinesol, which is off putting. Nice try, but I’ll pass on opening a second can.

I paid 123 up here in Hokkaido!

It got the job done, but it’s nothing special. I liked it better as it warmed up, so I could
    pull out a bit flavor.

Sounds like a conbini price? Or maybe the government taxes the other brewers more heavily up there;-) Anyway, I have to find my receipt, it was ¥105 at the store yesterday. Maybe it was on sale when I bought it last week.
