Kirin Ichiban Shibori Stout

Japanese Name: キリン 一番搾り スタウト
Brewer: Kirin
Release: Feb. 6, 2013
Type: Japanese Beer
Alcohol: 5%
Purchase Price: ¥216 @7-eleven

Tasting Notes:
Originally released in 2007, Kirin Ichiban Shibori Stout comes to market this time of the year. It’s one of the few dark beers in the marketplace and is made with both caramel and roasted malts. Ichiban Stout has coffee notes, but not much chocolate as one might expect, with a fair amount of bitterness throughout. It’s a very nice stout, although I’d like to see a nitrogen ball like Guinness for more creaminess.

  1. Just finished an Asahi Black (Munich Type). Oddly enough, I haven’t had an Asahi Stout. I’m going to have to grab a bottle and give ‘er a go. I drank a Kirin Stout and a Guiness back to back. I was a little underwhelmed with the Kirin Stout.

Agreed. I don’t recall having the Asahi Stout, must get to that sometime. I also want to try Yebisu’s dark again. It’s been several years since I’ve had it. Can’t remember the flavor.
