Here in Japan over the past year, “family-bonds” have been the theme with the ever lasting economic downturn and the one year anniversary of the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake and nuclear crisis. Kirin’s latest entry into the dai-san market is Mugi no Gochisou, which feeds on this theme. Let’s see if Kirin Mugi no Gochisou deserves a seat at your family’s dinner table.
The package design is very nice, wrapped in beige imprinted with a freshly poured beer. It’s sure to catch the attention of the housewife strolling the beer aisle. In the glass, it’s your normal everyday brew with no strong noticeable aromas to mention. After my first gulp my first impression was the flavor of toast. Mugi no Gochisou is very smooth drinking, with no overbearing bitterness or aftertaste, only maltiness and an enjoyable sweetness on the mid-palate.
At 105 yen at the grocery store, it’s a great price to enjoy an everyday brew when you’re on a budget. So yes, give Kirin Mugi no Gochisou a try, and it just might become your daily drinker.
