Asahi Dry Zero Pour

Tasting Notes:
Late in the footsteps of Kirin’s Free and other non-alcohol beer taste beverages from the other major beer manufacturers, is Asahi’s Dry Zero. This is the most recent entry in the Japanese “I need to drive, but I still want to partay” market. Most beverages in this designation, should have never been invented, so let’s see how Asahi Dry Zero stacks up.

In the glass, it looks like beer and that’s a good thing. While coming close, it also does not taste like beer, and that’s actually… a good thing too. It does vaguely resemble a dai-san beer in flavor, but Asahi actually did put the “dry” into Dry Zero. They got rid of the nasty sweetness!

The bottom line is that while this is not the perfect 0.00% alcohol replacement, it’s pretty darn close, and it actually tastes pretty good. It is better than anything else currently in the beer taste beverage category. So if you find yourself in Japan and you are the designated driver, don’t feel left out. Hit up the Asahi Dry Zero and have yourself a good time.

I can’t drink any alcohol due to a medical condition, but while in Japan recently I discovered this alcohol-free beer. I haven’t been able to drink real beer for over 10 years, so I’m not qualified to comment on the taste in comparison, but along with some yakiniku this tasted pretty darn good to me!

i’m abstaining from alcohol while im on cought meds, tried out the asahi dry zero black variety. surprisingly good, though a bit different from the non-black style. sweet with a chocolate taste and high carbonation. i was shocked to have enjoyed it

Have you tried Jolly Shandy and Anglia Shandy?

No, I’ve never tried either of them before. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen them at the import liquor stores either… must be on the lookout.
