This collaboration between Sapporo and Royce’ is in its second year, with 2011 bringing this “Sweet” version to the table. Sapporo Chocolat Brewery Sweet, combines chocolate malt and chocolate nibs into a chocolaty sparkling malt beverage.
A pop of the tap and the sweet aroma of chocolate fills the room, you’ll wonder who’s brought the chocolate fondue. Poured into the glass Chocolat Brewery shows an expected chocolate brown, akin to your favorite cola beverage. Your first sip will fill your mouth with a semi-sweet chocolate flavor, not overpowering, but hopefully you didn’t pair this with grilled salmon. It finishes with a smooth maltiness and no bitterness.
Sapporo Chocolat Brewery Sweet is definitely a dessert brew. It most closely reminds me of a chocolate coke from Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlor when I was a child. While the flavor of this dessert brew might not suite most beer drinkers, if you’re looking for something sweet to top off the evening, you just might find some satisfaction. Sapporo Recommends drinking Chocolat Brewery Sweet as an ice-cream float, and that definitely would be delicious. If this is still in the stores, I’ll be making one.
